Seluah / “The Other Side of the Gun” / Digital Single Out Jan. 10

First Album in 10 Years, Red Parole, Out April 10, 2012

Formed in Louisville, Ky., in early 2000, Seluah immediately surfaced as a provocative departure from the city’s well-regarded independent music scene. Drawing from trip-hop, post rock, dub and classic rock influences, Seluah creates innovative music that is beautiful and accessible; ambient yet substantial. The bands’ sound has been favorably described as melding elements of Massive Attack, Portishead, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, The Ventures and Radiohead.

Seluah consists of four respected touring musicians: Guitarists Andrew Killmeier (Boom Bip) and Matt Johnson (Boom Bip, People Noise), bassist Andrew Peace and Edward Grimes (Rachel’s) on vocals and drums.

The band’s self-titled EP earned enthusiastic press: “One of the best records to ever come out of Louisville” (LEO Weekly), “A psych dub masterpiece” (Ear X-tacy) and “In a just world, this album would go down in History … recognizable only by those who hear it, having no equal or nothing with which to compare” (D.W. Box).
Upon the release of the EP, the band made the cover of Louisville Music News and Jeffrey Lee Puckett of The Courier-Journal gave the record a glowing review, with his only criticism being the short running time. The EP has remained on the short list of CD Baby Editors’ Picks on both of its listed genres (trance and dub) for almost a decade. The track “Bled” was one of the top 20 songs of all time in Garageband’s electronic chart.

Seluah’s music was featured in Stu Pollard’s 2004 film “Keep Your Distance.” After the release, it was promoted for national distribution by Touch and Go Records. Seluah has toured with Rachel’s and Shipping News and shared stages with Yo La Tengo, Maserati, Mono, Macha, VHS or Beta, The Frames and Matt Pond PA.

After a six-year hiatus, Seluah regrouped with a bolder, guitar-driven sound. In March 2011, they entered The Funeral Home Studio in Louisville, Ky., with engineer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket) to make Red Parole, a nine-song opus that finds the band heavier and more resilient than ever. This summer, audiences were treated to a sneak preview of the new material when Seluah opened for TV On The Radio.

Red Parole arrives on CD, digital and LP from Karate Body Records on April 10, 2012. The first single, “The Other Side of the Gun,” will be available worldwide from digital retailers on Jan. 10, 2012. Stream it now on our Soundcloud page.
